Linux Mint Debian No Sound

Here's my problem. I have LXDE and pulse audio is crap on LXDE. Sound cuts in and out when I'm watching videos and it's frustrating. Last night I got fed up. I found the actual drivers for my soundcard and installed them. Problem is, they weren't configured properly. I found out what the vendor ID was and tried to correct this to no avail. So, I downloaded and installed the Alsa drivers but that was a bust too. Now I'm working on a linux pc without sound. I warn you ahead of time I am a newbie to LXDE but I can get around pretty well. I'd prefer to use the manufacturers drivers if possible. If not, I want the ALSA. Pulse Audio is too unstable on LXDE. Any help would be appreciated.

I forgot to add. I know I have a realtek audio device. Controller is AC97 The ID is ALC888.

Also, my pc is an Acer E380.

Further, I managed to uninstall the alsa drivers and the pulse audio completely. Then I re-installed the realtek drivers but still no sound. Any thoughts on why this is? Clearly my pc doesn't realize that I have a sound card because it doesn't see it when I click on sound>hardware. Can anyone help me configure this?

Thanks,

Mark

If you want to use "manufacturers drivers" you van go to the sight above. However I am very suprised they are not in the LM repositories.

Cascade, thanks but you missed the point of my message. I did "download" my drivers from realtek and even messaged them directly for instructions but I've not received a response after 72 hours. They are no help. Their automatic install doesn't work. Sure, it spends ten minutes extracting everything but it doesn't install a driver. No one on the forums.linuxmint.com can help me so this is my last hope.

Mark,
I am little confused about your first post saying you are using LXDE,
However this post you are using Linux Mint Debian, or LMDE.

Anyway, if yours is LMDE, then, you can refer to a procedure my mads on how to completely remove pulseaudio and replace by alsa.
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopi...eaudio+in+LMDE

I did this a few times , for a few computer hardwares, and it works.
Of course, your mileage may vary.

Sorry, slip of the keys. I am using LMDE. Sorry about the confusion. As far as forums.linuxmint.com, they have been no help at all. I posted a request for help over five days ago and I'm the only one who responded. Apparently there are a few of us that are having issues with this particular soundcard/driver. It's incredibly frustrating because even realtek will not respond to my request for help.

Also, the solution that you posted a link to doesn't work for me. It's definitely an issue with this particular card. Pulse Audio was painful to use and that's where the issues started. I got tired of the sound cutting in and out on me and i uninstalled it. Then I tried to install Alsa but it couldn't find my sound card. Then I uninstalled Alsa and installed my realtek drivers but the instructions weren't specific so they didn't work either. I'm assuming there's something else I need to install that will detect my sound card that's not getting installed automatically. If I can find out what that is then all of my issues will be resolved.
