Linux MDK 9.0 and ACPI on laptop

Hi there. I would like to ask someone for a help how to setup ACPI in Linux Mandrake 9.0. The laptop is HP Pavilion xf145 with AMD Athlon 1 GHz (PowerNow) but it gets really hot when running. Do I have to compile kernel with ACPI patch? I am kinda scared of kernel compiling... :-(

acpi is not yet supported, expect for a few KERNEL PATCHES like the one at http://acpi.sf.net

I think mandrake makes a kernel with acpi support. Just go to one of their mirrors, download rpm and install.
