Linux Laptop Buyer Guide Help!

Hello I'm looking to buy a new laptop as I'm getting ready for college. I'm wanting to install Red Hat 9.0 as my os. I'm hoping to use the laptop to burn dvds alot. I want to know what your guy's advice would be. I really love the apple notebooks, but am concerned about the compatability to linux. It says I can't install flash on it though.
