Linux fingerprint reader support for AES4000 (Targus Defcon Authenticator)?

Is it possible to get the Targus Defcon Authenticator-fingerprint reader (based on the AES4000-chip) to work under Linux & BioAPI?

Does it require drivers (some VeriFinger-demo did not, it worked with that)?

If it does, where do I find these drivers?

Been googling for days but can't find any info about this particular chip. You may also recommend other fingerprint readers, if you know of any that works under Linux. I know that IBM Thinkpads have a Linux-supported (UPEK) fingerprint reader, but I am not going to change my Apple PowerBook away just because of that, I want an external device. ;)
