Linux drivers for SmartNav3 ??

Hello, I am a newbie to linux about to switch to SUSE 10
I would like to use a Naturalpoint SmartNav hands free mouse but the company doesn't yet see the market for a linux driver.

Is there any way I can use a SmartNav within linux ?
Is there a project to develop a driver for this device ?

All help appreciated

p.s. it has a USB connection but uses software drivers on the host pc to work.
