Linux driver for HP scanjet 3670

I am using "Win 2000" as XSane on Ubuntu (of whichI am a great fan) will not recognise my HP scanjet 3670 scanner. Is it possible to get XSane to drive it or do I have to continue with two PC's For obvious reasons
(I am a pensioner of nearly 80) I do not want to buy another scanner.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Looking at the SANE's information sheet about it, your scanner seems not to be supported. But from SANE's download I did go to the source repository page where I founded this link from which I dowloaded the last stable release file sane-backends-1.0.19.tar.gz. After un-tarring it:
Code:
bash-3.1$ tar xvf sane-backends-1.0.19.tar.gz
I had a look at ./sane-backends-1.0.19/backend/genesys_devices.c and saw that hp367Oc is supported.

As there is a Debian SID package for sane-backend-1.0.19 and if I am right Ubuntu is based upon Debian, may be you could try to install it or (prefarably) the Ubuntu-equivalent. Or, if this doesn't work and you are comfortable with compiling programs, you could compile it yourself and install it from the source code.

Thanks Didier. Regret that most of your reply is beyond me but I will have a go. Am I correct in thinking that the code has to be typed into a terminal?

Well, it depends on the availability of a pre-compiled package for your version of Ubuntu.

To check that, please tell us which Ubuntu version do you have, e.g. 8.10/intrepid, 8.04/hardy, 7.10/gutsy.

Scanner driver

Thanks Didier - sorry to have taken so long to reply but have been very busy. I use Ubuntu 8.1 and driving this scanner is the only problem I have have encountered with Linux. Trouble is that as I am now nearly 80 I find it difficult to learn this new technology. But thanks for all your help.

Hello Drawstop,

As long as you are eager to learn, you will stay young

By the way, my father is nearly 87 and he uses Slackware Linux

Now I suggest you install this package. I don't know Ubuntu but I guess you could do that typing following command:
Code:
aptitude install <package_name>
as root in the directory where you will have downloaded it.

I hope it will work, don't hesitate to come back for more help if needed.
