First of all, a bit of advice. You have to be rather cautious about choosing hardware for Linux, particularly when it comes to peripherals like printers and scanners. Many companies still don't provide much, if any, Linux support or drivers for their products. I highly caution you to do your research and make sure the products you are interested in are fully supported
before you buy them. It will save you a lot of grief down the line.
Anyway, Canon has traditionally been one of those companies with a poor support record. However, you seem to be in luck. The openprinting database (link in sig) doesn't list your model, but with a bit of sleuthing on a similar model number I ended up on
this page.
It looks to me like Canon has decided to create a kind of unified driver system complete with Linux support, for at least some of their printers. I'm not sure off-hand, but I suspect they aren't completely FREE and probably contain binary blobs of some kind, but still, it's nice to see them taking Linux more seriously.
