Linux doesn't start after connecting new monitor

Hello since a couple of months I use Linux.
Since 1 week I have Suse 9.3.
I installed it with an other monitor, now I wanted to use an other monitor
but got an error that the monitor can't use 72 herz and the program didn't go further.
I can only start linux with failsafe but I don't know how to go further.
I hope someone can help me?

Re-run xorgconfig or whatever you used to setup Xorg before (or edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf).

Your new monitor can't handle the settings your old monitor was set to use, so X11 can't start, which means no GUI.

Hello I tried to change the settings with xorgconfig.
I used the same monitor settings as used with windows.
But when I changes I got the error that the monitor couldn't work with the depth I set.
I tried an other but that didn't work to.
Is there no possibility to change the hardware settings with starting up the installation??
Now I installed Suse again.
But still want to know what to do.

since you're running suse 9.3 you can run sax2 for fairly simple x configuration. You will be able to change everything you need to in there.
