Linux doesn't see new RAM
I just installed another 512MB module to make 1 GB of RAM in my machine. The BIOS sees the new memory fine, so it's not a hardware problem. Linux sees new memory too, but only a little. It sees 886 MB, when it should be 1024MB. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running kernel 2.6.7. If you need to know anything else, just let me know.
in lilo.conf what memory parameters do you have? Do u have mem=512 then maybe u could try changing this to mem=1024 ( not sure in mandrake if it is append=mem=1024)
then run /sbin/lilo.conf after u have made the changes and reboot to apply. U shouldn`t need to keep adding the parameters to your kernels.
Have u tried checking the output of free -m
Hope this helps :-)

Tried the option, Linux didn't boot and I had to rescue the bootloader. However, dmesg is telling me that I have to use a HIGHMEM (it says it in caps) enabled kernel. Does anyone know which option that is?
sorry that didn`t help too much. highmem is configured using the command config_highmem but I would google about the possible `pitfalls` of doing this.
