Linux does not see eth0 on Compaq SR2020NX

For my new Compaq SR2020NX windows XP recognizes eth0 but PcLinuxOS does not.
Have also tried SUSE 10.1 boot disk - it cannot access eth0 either.
Any advise?

Both PcLinuxOs disk and SUSE 10.1 boot disk have worked on Compaq Presario 5630 - 1998 machine.

Thanks for the technical suggestions.

Answer to questions above:
"Output of ifconfig -a?" - have not yet run.
"Did you try typing dhcpcd?" - have not yet tried.
Machine is currently being used with XP running - unavailable for now for Linux testing until I have a solution.

My new questions are:
1- Has anyone successfully installed either Suse 10.1 or FC6 or any Linux on a Compaq SR2020NX (it has an AMD 3500+ processor)?
2- Can anyone suggest a new off the shelf machine that they have successfully install the same on?
