Linux does not detect usb device.
Hi,
Please can you tell me how to get Linux to detect a usb device. Is it necessary to install usbmodules; if so, then which one and how to do it? I am using RH Linux 7.1+. Linux cannot detect my usb FlashDisk device. How do I get this device and other usb devices (e.g. usb modem etc.) detected. regards, jose dsilva |
josedsilva; have u checked the HCL(hardware compatible list) and http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HARDWARE-HOWTO/index hardware compatibility
index, scroll thru to u r devices for compatiblity with linux. |
most USB modems are not compatable with linux. go to best buy and pick up a cheap pci card. The only problem is detecting it. I still have trouble with that.

It's not a good idea to pick up a PCI card, since they're usually Winmodems, and, you might guess by their name, only work with Windows. Pick up an external serial modem instead.
