Linux distro for Intel P35 / ICH9R?
 

I'm building a new PC with an Intel P35 chipset motherboard, Core2Duo CPU and the ICH9R southbridge. It will run mostly Windows XP (no flames please). It plan on setting up the BIOS and drivers for AHCI mode on the SATA hard drives, though I have no plans on using RAID. Since I won't be using IDE compatibility mode, I'm interested in a Linux distro I can install as a secondary boot which will give me the least problems with such a modern motherboard.

Debian, Slackware or RPM based does not matter. I can get around them all. I just want one that has a Linux kernel and canned drivers that already supports Intel's latest chipset out of the "box". The Linux side of this PC won't be used too often except to check work that I do on the XP side and make sure web pages and the like "appear" correct to multiple operating systems.

Hi,

The distros that I know to work with those chipsets are:

Ubuntu
Mandriva
Fedora 8
Gentoo (with some problems)

Those are the distros that someone with the same chipsets that I know has being able to work, I can't give any details about others or the those that I've posted here 'cause I've not tested them myself ;)

Well, still is a problem for many people.

For instance, Debian seem to fail with those chipsets, even lenny and sid branchs.

Knoppix also have problems with those chipsets. The ones that I mentioned are those that I know that works 'out of the box', other than those are something that you should try ;)
