I tried Googling about myself, and got lots of links about "rooting" the phone, but little useful about how to connect to it.

I am guessing that it connects with a USB cable. With the phone connected, run the command lsusb in a terminal and post the output of the command, or at least the portion regarding the phone, back here. That will tell us how and whether the phone is being sensed.

Please surround it with "code" tags, which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the "quick reply" window.

If you can post which version of Android is on the phone (that should be available in the Settings dialog somewhere), that would also likely help.

Motorola doesn't seem to provide any Linux support and their support pages are virtually un-navigable.

Have you tried connecting it up and then running dmesg in a terminal?

Dmesg produces a lot of output, so you might want to pipe it to a file (something like this

Code:

dmesg > dmesg.txt
so you can then open the file and search for any references to the phone. This will tell you whether the computer is actually seeing the device.

If it is, post the portion of the output relating to the phone back here, being sure to surround it with "code" tags, which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the quick reply window.
