Thanks Harishankar! I clicked " configure printer " but my user name, real name, and password would not get me into the panel to check out the things you mentioned. I have no trouble getting into Yast from the desktop for updates. I do not understand why I can not get into the printer.

Thanks Again, Harishankar!! Your post, and my subsequent unableness to get into my printer; made me go into Yast and explore my printer settings. This in turn enabled me to find the resolution edit. What a difference in the text printing. I do not own a digital camera so I do not print pictures, just text.
Again, my Linux ignorance displays itself for all to see. Again, 1000 Thanks!!

Harishankar,
I think one of the things experienced Linux users are not cognizant of is just how intimidating Linux is to someone old and only exposed to Windows. I am very, very nervous about using Yast for anything but online updates. When I first installed Suse Linux 10 it was with the KDE desktop which is way too complicated for me. I went into Yast to change it and was treated like an invading army. I eventually had my hard drive reformatted with a bare bones XP partitioned on my " C " drive. My computer guy gave me drivers for my HP printer and scanner and when I got home I reinstalled Suse with the Gnome desktop.
When I look at books and other information about Linux I feel like an ant at the bottom of Mt. Everest knowing that it would take another two lifetimes to climb to the top.
Thank goodness there are Linux users, like yourself, willing to help us computer illiterates!!

Cousinlucky, good points there and thanks for the compliments.
99% of Linux problems are either hardware related or configuring the system. It takes time to learn these and often by trial and error. But Linux is improving by the day...
