Linux compatibility with Gigabyte GA-8I945GZME-RH Mainboard?

I have a new Gigabyte GA-8I945GZME-RH mainboard. I looked in the LinuxQuestions.org HCL and didn't find that board, the onboard audio (Realtek ALC883), or the onboard video (Intel 950 accelerator). Does this mean it's not going to work? How bad off am I?

I thought that motherboard compatability was generally very good in Linux and that, if it's x86, you should probably just assume that it does work. But then, you have the mobo, try attaching a powersupply and cd drive and see if it will boot Knoppix.

Right. I have no doubt it will boot, and that the mobo is compatible, but I'm concerned about the onboard peripherals; video, audio, NIC.

My knowledge in Linux is still limited and while I can install and configure applications, I still have difficulty with drivers. So, I guess if it's not 100% compatible I'll get my experience in ... :study:

My new laptop has ALC883 audio, and it works fine. I remember reading somewhere though that you need at least a 2.6.19 kernel.

The intel GMA950 is about the best video hardware you can get for Linux. It is supported well by open source drivers. It isn't the fastest though.

Not sure about the LAN port, but the vast majority work. Only a few have problems.

Wow, it worked with 0 hassles!

And ... I installed Beryl, which works very nicely, too! Love it when things just work out! :)

New to Linux, I have the same Gigabyte GA-8I945GZME-RH motherboard.

I was wondering if there was a download package of drivers for this GA-8I945GZME-RH motherboard so I can make sure the SATA HDD's and the Graphics card etc are running at Optimal speeds. It seems really slow to load a page compared to when I had it running on my old Athlon system with an AGP X700 Pro video card. I am using a Samsung 740b 17inch monitor at 1280 by 1024 at 60hz which looks ok, but I still think I might need the driver for that as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new to Linux and don't even know how to install something from a tar file yet. So go easy on me if I noob something up. You gotta start somewhere.

Thanks All,
Pathos.

Any recent distribution will have all drivers for that mainboard pre-installed, you do not have to download anything. If you have problems with this board please open a new thread about your issues and include as much information about your system as possible.
