Linux / BSD Server Hardware ?
I've asked the same question on a dutch forum and they told me it was a lame question.. Still, i don't have any awnser to my question. If it's really that stupid to ask it, sorry about it, and waiting for the flames :p But since there are only adult people here i don't ecspect flames :)
Anyway : I wanna run 4 gameservers ( Allready running 2 ). It's 4 counter strike servers with all 4 12 slots each. I'm running the servers on Mandrake 10.1 now with this setup : - 3.2Ghz Northwood - 512MB Corsair XMS - MSI 875Pe Neo 2 Mainbord - MSI FX5600 128MB - 1mbit upload My question is, is there a rule or somthing to calculate the bancdwith and hardware you need for any application or service ? How far will it reach that a gameserver will need 2 XEON processors to run 4 servers ? How much RAM will it use ? I've found out that for each slot you can calculate 20KB upload to have a good ping.. But how about the hardware ? Thanks in advance for any reply.... |
Will my line be a bottleneck in the first place instead of my hardware ? Cuz i can a get a 4MBIT upload maximum.
