ok I got the Linksys WPC11 card and it was version 4, so I guess that is causing me pain... It doesn't work. What card can I get that has not hoops to jump thru and just is as simple as putting it into the laptop. Above someone mentioned Linksys WPC11 v.3 but want to believe it, but when I run "neat" and pretent to add a wireless adapter there are no Linksys options so would someone recommend one that for sure works while I try to hunt down a WPC11 v.3 card?

You may want to try e-bay where you can email the seller and ask for specifics, older is better if you're not interested in compiling modules.

If I get the Linksys WPC11 v3 should I have that card in the PCMCIA slot when I install Linux or not?
