Ok. First find out what your device really is. Use the command lspci to do this. For example:

lspci | grep Ethernet
This should provide a line of output indicating what your network device is. With this information you can look up what driver it uses. One way of doing this (assuming it uses a free driver) is looking on the fsf website that I linked to in my previous post.
You can then confirm that this driver is being used with the lsmod command:

lsmod | grep <driver-name>
To *really* confirm that this is being used you can try to see if removed the module from the running kernel stops your network from working:

modprobe -r <driver-name>
