Linux all-in-one reccomendations

I have a couple Lexmark all-in-ones (printer, scanner combo units) I have been using with Windows. In my research, I have found that neither one is supported by Cups or Sane. What does OfficeMax carry that is supported under Linux?

lectraplayer,

I have no idea what OfficeMax stocks but this HP 8620 AIO works fine with Linux and supports cups & sane:

I have a Brother DCP L2500D Printer/Scanner/Copier that works perfectly with Linux. Highly recommended. Like bb2 I don't know anything about OfficeMax. I've never heard of it.

Looks like Office Max does not carry it though.

So. There are 36 Brother printers to choose from in my next link and I am sure someone can chime in on which one they use or you can go through my open printing link.

I found BeachBoy's HP at several stores near me, but nothing else. It seems like I can spend all day checking each printer I find individuality for Linux compatibility, and I wind up stumping every member of the staff when I say Linux Compatible. Also, keeping up with which printers are in current production, and can be acquired and supplied is a handful as well. What is there to make it easier?

In my experience, HP has the best overall support for Linux.

I have an HP OfficeJet Professional L7680, but I suspect that model has long been superseded.

If you have a mobile device capable of browsing the web, you might want to bookmark this site on it: http://www.openprinting.org/printers It's not conclusive, as it depends on volunteer contributions, but it can be a big help.

Hi...

How about purchasing a printer from ThinkPenguin? You can give them a call to see if a model you're interested in is supported by SuSE 10.

Regards...

Unfortunately, HP also has the best false positives for IDing ink cartridges as being "counterfeit," and deciding to either not print any longer, or completely brick the printer...

If you would like to stay with OfficeMax, I found an HP all-in-one printer here which you can have delivered to your store at no additional cost. It is supported by HPLIP, minimum version 3.13.9. There is even a review here, by PCMag.

EDIT: I just noticed/remembered you're using SuSE 10 and I'm not sure if HPLIP will support your distribution. You might first want to look around and see if you can find a compatible printer list before you purchase anything.

Let us know how it goes...

Regards...

BTW: I am NOT in SUSE anymore. I need to update that.

Slackware may be a better guide since I have Porteus 3.1.

What would an USB all in one (printer scanner combo) look like on the Linux file system?

Not sure what you mean by that. Might help or not.
