Lexmark z611 unable to install

I know that many of you will automatically refer me to the http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Lexmark_Printers
site when you see this, however I have attempted to install following those instructions (modified for mandriva) multiple times without success. I extract the rpm2 file, and when I get to the directory and
su
and command ./install
I get this message:
./install: line 3: gcc: command not found
+ install -m755 rpmoffset rpm2targz /usr/bin
install: cannot stat `rpmoffset': No such file or directory
How do I fix this command?

Are you using Gentoo? The Gentoo documentation is excellent but if you are not using Gentoo then you have to interpret what you find there and apply it to your distribution.

If you are not using Gentoo then see if your distro's software package collection has Lexmark printer drivers.

Have you tried just using the CUPS software? That may work.

No, not using Gentoo. What does my error message mean? Is there a way to get the piece of info that its missing? What about the CUPS? I thought I downloaded it, but what do I do with it?
