Well, this thing is still got the best of me.
I figured out how to decompress the lex4039p.ppd.gZ file. Once I decompressed it, there is a file called LEX4039P.PPD. I copied the file to /usr/share/cups/model/lexmark ( as root ). I went into MCC and configure a printer. The auto detection reports a lexmark 4039 on lp0. Good so far. I pick the standart post script driver, and try to install the PPD file. No mater what I do the printer wizard reports the file is not standard PPD format.
I got out the disketts that came with the printer form Lexmark. Same story, the files are not PPD format.
Both the download and the disketts are from Lexmark.
I triple boot this system. The printer is a parallel port printer. Under W98 it is LPT1. Under MDK 9.2 the printer works, with a PPD file for a HP post script printer. It isn't perfect, but at least it prints, including test page. I want to try and replace the PPD file, but I don't want to muck with it until I get printing running on 10.1.
I have noticed under MDK 9.2 I have /dev/parports. They are not there under 10.1. Do I need them? If yes, how are they created?
When I do a lsmod for printers I see :
Quote:
lp 9548 0
parport_pc 30976 1
parport 33896 2 lp,parport_pc

Any thoughts would be appreciated...
