Lenovo X220 Tablet Battery Issue

Hello All!

I'm hoping someone might be able to provide some insight on a strange issue regarding my x220t's battery management.

I'm running the most up-to-date version of Xubuntu (only--not a dual-boot with W10).

Here's the issue:

When I power up the computer, I initially get a normal battery indication (charging, discharging, power level, etc.). If I call ACPI I get the usual information.

After a very short time, however, the battery indicator shows only an "x" as though it has stopped detecting the battery. However, if I unplug the laptop at that point, it will continue to run on battery power, albeit with no way to determine the charge level, which is annoying.

If I shut down the laptop at that point and try to turn it on again, I get a "critical low battery error." However, if I plug it in it will boot normally, after which I can unplug and use on the remaining battery power.

This is the case with both of the two batteries I have, one of which is an older OEM Lenovo battery, the other of which is a newer aftermarket one.

I've tried most of the "usual suspect" fixes I can think of: the ol' remove battery, hold down power button, etc. trick, updating software and modules, etc. I can't find anything wrong with physical connections.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

Check dmesg for any issues with the battery or ACPI.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

Issue Resolved

Just to follow up on this for anyone who happens to reference the thread:

The battery problem with my x220t continued to deteriorate until it wasn't detecting any battery at all.

I went ahead and purchased a used working motherboard on Ebay, swapped it with the old one, and immediately everything worked swimmingly again.
