Length of USB cable for NX400 printer scanner

I have not worked with Epson printers in years, so it maybe something else: I have been trying to get a friend's Epson NX400 printer scanner functioning. I installed the device and it worked well. Then my friend moved the printer/scanner and added an extension cable to make the connection to the new location. Now the scanner is not recognized by Xsane, sane or GIMP. Each is still reflecting the model number of my friend's previous printer.

The printer prints flawlessly, the copier copies, but the system does not recognize the scanner at all.

Any ideas?

Move it back to the original setup and see if that fixes it.
