Leadtek wintv2000/xp Expert Mandrake 10 final problems
I know you have heard this problem far too many times. I have gone through about 50 threads without any sucess.
I installed mandrake 10 with the card installed and it was detected fine.
When i try to run xawtv it won't even load. I have tried tvtime (i think thats what it is) and i can't select an input source and when i try to change a channel it says "can't find dev/video0"
I have looked around for dev/video0 and can't find it i also looked for the vl4 folder and couldn't find it.
I did lsmod and bttv is in there.
i did xawtv -hwscan
it said something that i can't remember. I will put it up next time i am in linux.
I don't really know what to do. Any help would be great.
[teddy@localhost teddy]$ xawtv -hwscan
This is xawtv-3.91, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.3-7mdk)
looking for available devices
port 53-53
type : Xvideo, image scaler
name : NV Video Overlay
i have tried modprobe bttv and got the following
[teddy@localhost teddy]$ modprobe bttv
bash: modprobe: command not found
[teddy@localhost teddy]$ xawtv
This is xawtv-3.91, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.3-7mdk)
can't open /dev/v4l/video0: No such file or directory
v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway
v4l2: open /dev/v4l/video0: No such file or directory
v4l2: open /dev/v4l/video0: No such file or directory
v4l: open /dev/v4l/video0: No such file or directory
no video grabber device available
FATAL: Error inserting cx8800 (/lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/kernel/drivers/media/video/cx88/cx8800.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
I guess that since i am getting no replyes that everyone is sic of trying to get these cards to work
I'm using Mandrake 10 with a bt878 video card. Same problem. I've been all over the internet and I can't find a way to make it work. I was really happy with the way Mandrake detected all my other hardware, and it detects the card too, but for some reason doesn't create the /dev/ files.
So now I've got xawtv and tvtime working, sound and everything. I used the Mandrake Control Center to configure it (like I had tried many times before, for some reason it worked this time). Only problem is when I reboot the computer my /dev/v4l directory and everything in it gets deleted, so every time I reboot I have to reconfigure it again. Does anybody know a way around this?
here is an easy way to fix your prob
1: first login as root to kde (i know this is a big no no but do it anyway)
2: in your filemanager find a file called /ect/rc.local (its a shell script.... its in there......keep looking....... got it ok.)
3: open the file in a text editor and scroll down to the bottom
4: for the very last line in the script type this modprobe bttv

ted33 you have dirver config prob but you can work them out with a little research if you could post what type of tv card you have i could refer you to the proper drivers and explain how to install and Implement them
the lack of replies is due to the lack of info these cards work great
-=steady on=-
Thanks for youre help twistedknight, TwanAudio also suggested (on a different thread) putting the same line in the /etc/rc5.d/S99Local file. Both seem to work. Thanks again.
