LCP timeout - pppd problems

I'm having some problems getting my Debian Sarge box connected to the internet (dialup). I'm using an Lucent / Agere LT WinModem and kernel 2.6.8. I have compiled the latest drivers for the modem, and can dial phone numbers with it without problems.

This computer never had a problem using Mandrake 10.1 or Xandros 2, but I cannot get it to work under Debian. I have tried using KPPP and wvdial, both without luck. I have also tried changing various options (like auth/noauth) in /etc/ppp/options without luck (after reading a few things on the net).

Below I have provided my /var/log/messages and the output from wvdial, when I use wvdial to try to connect.

Of note is the line "LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests", I know this is probably the problem, but I don't know how to solve it (and I have tried).

Any help is appreciated!

leobert

Re: LCP timeout - pppd problems

Whatever worked for Xandros should be nearly identical under Debian, because Xandros is based on Debian. I suggest copying over the "/etc" files from Xandros.

(BTW: I have set up ltmodems on Debian a couple times before myself. I've always been able to get it working.)

It's sending, sending, sending.... but nothing. The problem is definitely on your side. You sure there weren't any warnings or errors when you compiled?

Was /dev/ttyLT0 setup correctly?

Code:
$ ls -l /dev/ttyLT0
crw-rw----  1 root dialout 62, 64 Jun  5  2004 /dev/ttyLT0
