Laserjet 5N / JetDirect / pxlmono issue

Hi.

Yes, I havbe searched before I posted and I have even looked through the linuxprinting.org mailing list archive, but no luck so far

Here is my situation: I have a Laserjet 5N printer with 34MB of memory and a JetDirect Print Server in it. It's connected to my switch so everyone can use it. Printing from Windows clients works like a charm, but as always printing from Linux clients is a major pain in the ass.

I have tried around with every driver possible for this printer and ran into the following issue. When I use the hpijsn (PCL5) driver, it prints just fine except all images look like shit, so that is no option. When I use the pxlmono (PCL6) driver it prints even the images like I want them, but after 1 page has been sent to the printer, it processes it for 3 minutes or so and then prints one friggin page. Imagine that with a 60 page document. Impossible.

My question now is, if anyone has their 5 series Laserjet working fine with any driver at all. Maybe it is just a question of my configuration, but I doubt it.

TIA @ all
Sebastian

I am having the same problem as you described with HPLJ5's. My HP 2100 work fine with same driver, did you find a solution?

Yes, I the end I used the turboprint drivers and everything worked fine. Only downside is that turboprint is not free of charge. Nothing else worked though.
