Large (512mb) USB stick doesn't work with SuSE Personal 9.1

I guess the title says it all really.

It appears in /media as four separate devices (that can't be good) and none of them are ever accessible.

The flashy blue LED does light up when I plug it in, and Konqueror does auto-open all four directories, but on each one I get the message

"Could not enter folder /media/usb-storage-58DEE1416E52C547:0:0:0p1"

except with 2 thru 4 instead of 1 at the end for the 'other devices'.

The packaging does advertise Linux 2.4+ compatability - can anybody help me out?

Questions;

1. what are the permissions on the /media directory and all usb directories?
2. Is this a new USB stick, and have you formatted it yet?

I'm guessing that it's either a permissions and/or file system initialization issue -- J.W.

Well, I tried accessing it as root, but I got the same error.

If you're still interested,
Owner has all permission;
Group and Other have Enter and Read, but not Write.

I'd put that in the normal format, but I don't know the normal format

It is new, and yes, I thought of formatting it - I did that in Windoze, but it made no difference.

How would I go about formatting it in Linux, and which one should I do it to?

Thanks in advance...

I have 2 USB drives. One worked and the other did just as you describe.
This post (discussing this subject) has some links to change to manual mounting. That did the trick for me.
