laptops

Just as a thought, I was wondering what, if any, distro would someone ues on a very old laptop?
I have an old epson actionnote 486 slc, This is a dx486/50 slc processor with 8 MB ram and monochrome display. There is no CD-ROM drive, so I would have to create at least 2 partitions, plus swap, and install from the fat partition, with a total of 2.1GB storage. So any ideas how to go about trying this? If I can't get linux to work on this, it's no big loss, there is always windoz 95.
Ps. there is also no pcmcia or usb port.
