Laptop Touchpad - Mandrake 9.1

Just installed MD9.1 on my Compaq Evo n600c. I'm an SA for a Windows shop, so I've to dual boot.

Install went without a hitch (not suprised)
KDE/X start up just fine (okay, more like damn fine)

Internal touchpad won't work. I used it during the install, so I confident that it can work, it just doesn't right now.

Also, plugging in a PS/2 mouse causes linux to go into a reboot loop.

My XP part is running like a champ.

I looked at the KDE control Center applet for the mouse, and it doesn't help much.

I'm not familiar enough with Linux command line to know off hand how I can configure the mouse once the setup Wizard is gone.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks much
JMR

You can configure the mouse at the command prompt with mousedrake (you'll have to be root).
The touchpad will most likley have limited functionality - set it as a standard ps2 mouse and go from there.
If you are wondering how to get the system out of the GUI, there are two ways.
This is the easiest, just hit ctrl+alt+f1 and you'll have a new terminal to log into, ctrl+alex+f7 to go back to GUI.
The better way to go is to open a terminal windows, su into root, type telinit 3 and the system will go into text + network mode.
Run mousedrake and hopefully it'll work : )
To use the mouse in the text environment you'll need gpm, which you can install with urpmi gpm (as root).

Good Luck

I have a compaq 722US and my touchpad wouldnt work during install, but my optical did. All i did was went to mandrake control center, and added a PS/2 mouse (if yours is like mine, its connected on an internal PS/2 port) and rebooted, while the optical was unplugged. Its worked fine ever since:D
