Laptop Touchpad

I have a Gateway Solo 9300 Laptop running RH7.3. The laptop has a touchpad for a mouse, and whenever I am typing
something (even when my hand runs over, not touching, the touchpad) my cursor go over to somewhere else on the screen. If I am not paying attention it messes up my work, and then I have to go and find where it left off.

I was wondering if there were any utilities to disable the touch pad or at least configure it to not be so damn sensitive.

you might want to get another USB mouse, i think it will disable your touchpad when using the USB mouse.

Thanks, but I was also thinking about the times when I am on my couch or outside on a chair where I wouldn't be able to use a mouse.

I will definitely use your suggestion for the rest of the time though.
