laptop problems

I have a Sager n2280 laptop.

I am trying to install mandrake on the system and it works but the screen with cli is very weird so i try redhat now the cli is ok but i cant get X to work.

The isntaller cant find the monitor when it probes but it does find the controller card for the monitor or vga card or what ever.

With widows i use 1024x786 and it works flawlessly and when i try that size on the Xconfigurator with all the alptop screens that they have under generic i have no luck i triedd 800x too that dint work to now how do i figure out what works?

or do i need drivers or something?

XF86Config

Try changing the modes line to read

Modes "native panel mode"

instead of the usual "1024x768 800x600 640x480"

That has worked on every notebook I have owned except for this one, (radeon mobile chipset) where I have used instead the standard line above.

Sorry

You're on your own; I have no idea what an XConfigurator is, much less how to run it. :-)

I edit the XF86Config file by hand.

laptop resolution problem

i have a compaq 700LA,
and am using mandrake 8.1 2.2.19secure

had the same problem with the resolution, until i changed the xserver, from 3.x.x to 4.x.x

this option appears once you change the video-card
with the mandrake configure tool (can't remember the name)

the only problem i have now is that staroffice5.2 hangs with this resolution.......

salud

SO 5.2

upgrade to 6 or get open office 1.0. FAR faster, much better.
