laptop on battery only crashes when given a big copy backup job
My friend Neil is a sad case. He uses windoze.
Yesterday he was telling me about this. He put a new battery in his Dell laptop.
The laptop functions normally with the new battery, except:
Now, when he copies GB size data to his 100GB backup stick, the laptop crashes.
Do the same with the power cable inserted and there is no problem.
We can only surmise that this indicates a bad contact where the battery plugs in to the socket.
Anyone ever had this problem??
He can send the battery back within 30 days.

I not encountered or heard of anything like this, but it certainly can't hurt to return the battery.
I trust he got it from a dependable source; I've heard tales of dodgy batteries being sold at places such as eBay etc.

Thanks for your reply!
He got it on Taobao. We buy everything on Taobao here! (Like my new, fan-propeller-powered bicycle lights!)
He has bought batteries from them before he said. This is the first time he has had a problem.
His Dell computer says it is a genuine Dell battery, but that is just a microchip talking, I suppose.
I just wondered if anybody had experienced this.

I have heard of cases where the computer needs to be calibrated to the new battery, but this seems unlikely for a Dell laptop, so maybe the battery really is faulty or incompatible somehow.
In any case, more troubleshooting is required.
Esp., in what ways can one reproduce the problematic behaviour.
And even Windows must have logs... I hope.
