Laptop keyboard stops intermittently

I have a three year old Lenovo laptop, it's physical condition has definitely deteriorated but it still works efficiently.
However, I have been facing a weird issue with the keyboard stopping intermittently. I believe it has nothing to do with the drivers as this happens both in Linux and windows. I have opened the laptop and re-adjusting the keyboard a little fixes the problem for some time (another solution is to press down the keyboard hard).
Do I need to buy a new keyboard or could there be some other reason causing this issue?

sounds like a faulty keyboard.
xev
or
showkey
are two programs that can help you determine it. you may have a loose connection at the lest.

I agree with BW-userx. It's almost certainly a hardware problem.

If you have an spare USB keyboard, you might try hooking that up and seeing whether it displays the same symptoms. If it does not, it's almost certainly the keyboard.

Thanks for the replies, I hooked in a wireless keyboard and for the past few hours it has been working fine. I'll now try and get a new keyboard and see how that works out.

Replacement keyboards for laptops are pretty inexpensive. Just make sure you order the replacement for your model of laptop (You don't specify your model No. in any post.) with the correct country keys layout. One size doesn't fit all!

Play Bonny!

I paid like a little over 10 less than 20 bucks US for mine. I think i pick it up off of eBay/ (that was awhile ago, so I do not remember the exact price. But it was not too expensive, that is not to say that it cannot get expensive.
