Laptop Freezes, when playing music out of xorg

Hi there,

normaly I try so long to solve problems, until it works... but now I have no more ideas what could be the problem.

Hardware:
Siemens Mobile 510 (not AGP)
RAM:256MB / HD:4GB /
Video:NEOMAGIC
Sound:ES1869
Kernel:2.6.16
Dist:Gentoo

After a few days of installation and compilation the sound and also the X-Server works well. But I am unable to play music with xmms or alsaplay when the X-Server is running. If I try to, the machine hangs and a have to turn off and on again.
Without the X-Server it is possible to play Music... also in different terminals at the same time.

Things I tried out:
-other IO-Addresses for the soundcard
-other Interrupts for the soundcard
-use not neomagic, but vesa as display-driver
-turn of shadowing in the bios
-dancing around the table
-moving a few other interrupts out of the way
-unplug pcmcia-network-card before starting the sound

I would be glad for any suggestion or idea...

Marcel
