LAN connection works with SuSE 9.0 not Mandrake 9.1, why?

I am using a laptop...hp ze4420us. I am putting this in this section for better chances of an educated response. I am running SuSE 9.0 and Mandrake 9.1 on VMWare Virtual Machines. SuSE will pick up my network card in which is routed a cable connection from a desktop machine. The internet and network will work on SuSE and sound works as well. I installed Mandrake, like it more, interface, functionality, software, but it is not picking up my network, or sound. What's the deal... I have been through the Mandrake configuration tool and it actually detects my network card but says it cannot connect to network/internet. Suse has no problem.... What's up?? Difference in SuSE/Mandrake device detection??

Thanks guys...

Steve
