I'm not sure if this helps out with your exact question, but I have this card working with both open and closed source drivers under Redhat 9 - after some effort...

Do you have a KT400 chipset ?

i have a kt400 chipset, but i use nvidia card.....just curious if you tryed the 'agp_unsupported=1' thing, to see if that helps....other then that i would say google it, someone else has to have had the smae problem

No, it's a KT266 - but I am using

add options agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1
alias char-major-178 syncfb

in modules.conf. I've forgotten what syncfb does - maybe
its not even related.
