Kppp
I have downloaded Slax, Vector, PCBSD, and, PClinux.
In all of these distros, KPPP will not allow me to choose
/dev/ttyS0. When I try, the OK button is blanked out.
Is there a fix for this or is it a secret?

In English: What are you trying to do?

Pix, you apparantly don't use dialup on Linux, if you had you would have invariably known what KPPP is. It's a point-to-point-protocol (the fancy term for dialup) client for KDE. So it's KDE-PPP, thereby KPPP. (And it sounds like you've never tried to configure 56k on Linux before)
Dave, having not used KPPP for a while, and not being booted into Linux at the current time, I don't have a real answer to give you. All I can recommend right now is to try playing around with the other modem ports and see if any of them work.

I have tried other ports, and it refuses to let me choose any of them. I don't understand why this problem is consistant. I even purchased PCLinuxOS from on-disc.com thinking that I had a bad download. That was a waste of money. I have Simply Mepis, and KPPP works just fine.

XavierP, Sorry, this started out as a rant about broken software. I did find out what the problem was tho. I Simply Mepis, you just choose /dev/ttyS0 hardware flow control, and click on ok. In other distros, you have to give you modem a name like it's the family pet. Got it working now.
Thanks guys.
