Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Knowing when a module/firmware was added to kernel?

I bought a Panda Wireless PAU05 USB wifi stick to deal with times when wireless doesn't work on a vanilla OS install. I'd like to know when the driver was added to the kernel proper. Is there a site that has that info?

If any site will provide that information, it would be kernel.org.

If you select the "browse" option for a kernel version, you can drill down to the "root/drivers/net/wireless/" section and see quite detailed information about what wireless drivers are included in that version. I did not see a separate section for "USB wireless," but I took only a quick look.

If you have plenty of disk space, clone the kernel. "git log <file>" will give you the complete history of <file>.
