Keyboard problems at startup

I have a very funky problem.

I've been dual booting Windows and Debian. Rarely actually booting into Windows, but lately, however, I've been booting into Windows at least daily.

I have a hard drive that has Windows set up on it, and a hard drive that has Linux set up on it.

I haven't been able to get Linux to see the Windows disk (an IDE disk, while the others are SATA), so I use the BIOS to change the boot order to boot into Windows or Debian.

How ever... all of a sudden, my keyboard refuses to work at start-up, so I can't enter the BIOS. I can't even choose between kernels on Grub, because the keyboard doesn't work.

I did try a different USB port and I even tried using the PS2 port. It always acts the same. Works perfectly once the computer has started and I'm at the log in screen.

I'm sure Windows has nothing to do with what happen, because booting from Windows to Linux didn't cause me any problems, I'm stuck using Debian.

Now, I didn't install any updates at all while booted into Debian. I'm 100% sure of that. So I have no idea what might have caused this... or what's happening.

Does anyone have the slightest idea what's going on?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

My suggestion would be to open the PC, Clear the BIOS settings manually using the 'Clear CMOS jumper' on the motherboard, and try again..

Check your motherboard manual or with the PC manufacturer for details, if you are unfamiliar with this procedure.

Thanks so much, man. That seems to work.

After looking through the manual I found there actually was a button to reset to the BIOS settings. Had no idea about this before.

Thanks again.

Weird issues like that are usually resolved by resetting the BIOS to factory defaults. if you had anything tweaked in BIOS you will need to redo it now..

Glad that worked for you
