Keyboard problem on KDE

I have "EAGLE TOUCH 89 KEY MINI MULTIMEDIA SILVER USB KEYBOARD W/ 2PT USB HUB" keyboard, When i type commands under the console on kde, it does not appear what I am typing. For example, when i type ". it gives me E, when I type /, it gives me e.
However, under the console without starting up my X window, everything works fine. Does anyone have seen this problem before?

I'd guess your X config has the wrong keyboard mapping set. What distro are you using, or specifically, what X server? See if your distro has a built-in tool for re-configuring the X-desktop and change keyboard layout, otherwise look under /etc/X11 and look for XF86-config or similar depending on your x server and within a section called
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
Driver "keyboard"
Option "XkbLayout" "gb"
and change the XkbLayout to whatever you need.

It sounds to me as though either X or KDE has the wrong keyboard map. To verify that KDE has the correct keyboard map, try the following:

Start the KDE control center on the K Menu, or by typing "kcontrol" in the command line (press alt+F2 to get the little "run command" box)
Select "Regional and Accessibility" from the panel on the left hand side
Then look under "Country/Region & Language" and ensure everything is as it should be. I don't think this would affect the keyboard even if it was all really messed up, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Next try "Keyboard Layout". For me, there is nothing checked under any of the tabs except for the "Enable xkb Options" under the "Xkb Options tab" - though as none of the options are selected, there doesn't seem to be any point in having this checked anyway!

I don't really expect that to have helped anything, but you might as well start by checking the simple stuff!

If it's ok under the consoles, I would have thought the system configuration would be ok, but we'd better check with yast to make sure. Maybe if you got the keyboard after installing the system then I dunno, maybe installing the drivers messed something. This is what I'd suggest:

Start Yast by looking under "System" in the K Menu, or by typing "yast" into a command line (including a console: I only just discovered Yast worked in text mode! )
Anyway, select "System" on the left hand side, and "Select Keyboard Layout" at the bottom of the menu on the right hand side.
Ensure the correct keyboard layout is selected.

Failing this you could ensure the keyboard drivers are installed correctly.

That pretty much sums up my knowledge! There probably isn't anything you've not already done in there. like I mentioned earlier, I'm a

One last thing, if the keyboard works ok under console then it's probably either X or KDE that's calibrated incorrectly. To find out which it is:
Log out of KDE
At the login prompt, type your username and password, but from the "Menu" menu, select a different login type, eg, ICEWM or FVWM or whatever (if there are any)
When you've logged in, find somewhere to type and see what happens.
If it types ok, then it looks as though X is ok and KDE is at fault, but if it doesn't type properly, then X is set incorrectly. To be honest though, I don't particularly understand how X works, so I don't know if it is even possible for it to be incorrectly calibrated in this way!

Anyway, hope this has been some help!
