keyboard problem

This happened on a different box than I'm using now.
The sys is Mandriva 2006.

When typing, nothing happens. Press the 'a' key and no 'a' appears on the screne. This is true with every key.

How it happened;
When drawing a striaght line with the Gimp, you hold down the shift key, draw the line then release the mouse button. During this a popup screne ask about 'pause' or something -I don't know exactly what the popup said. I obviously answered wrong.

Now, normal typing does not work. If I hold the key down for a split second I get a result. Holding it down 2 split seconds the letter appears many times.

Any ideas on solving this.

Thanks
dlw

keyboard delay

What DE are you using? It sounds like you may have accidentally lengthend the keyboard delay. If you are using Gnome goto Desktop>Preferences>Keyboard and select the keyboard tab and shorten the Delay and/or the Speed. If that doesn't solve the problem then select Accessibility and under Basic tab make sure it is not set to auto disable after a set amount of time or under Filters tab make sure enable slow keys is not checked. If you are using KDE then I'm sure there are similar keyboard settings in the Control Panel.
Hope this helps.

I fixed it.
I opened 'The Gimp' and repeated what caused the problem except this time I read the entire message. At the bottom of the popup box was a way to solve the problem.

Thank you for responding.
