Keyboard Help
I got a problem with my keyboard[USB] , Sometimes its so sensitive and sometimes its not working. I cant even log-in as root or as a user in other words I cant do anything with my Redhat 8.0 that's why I cant edit my redhat-config-keyboard but when Redhat is booting-up it can detect my keyboard and says keyboard [ OK ]
Do you know whats wrong with my keyboard or whats wrong with that? I'm using Redhat 8.0 Thank you!

USB is what's wrong with it. Honestly, USB (Unreliable Son of a Bitch interface) is the most disregarded technology here in linux world, it was designed with Microsoft in mind as if there is nobody else. Can you post the the model of the keyboard, the modules that are loaded (/sbin/lsmod), the section of XF86Config file pertaining your keyboard?

I have a Gateway PC and the keyboard comes with it is HID-compliant keyboard and the manufacturer says: Standard Keyboard, Hope that helps
How about the mouse my Redhat can also detect my mouse and it works perfectly. Why is it only the keyboard is not working and the mouse works great? Both are USB Do you why? Thank you!

Well, they are different devices, if you try to lsmod command I hint you you should see something like
usbcore
usbkbd (or something alone this line)
usb_mouse (or usbmouse)
usb-uhci (or usb-ohci/ehci)
some more usb related stuff. Take a look at the current kernel configuration, to do so in console enter
cd /usr/src/linux-2.4/
make menuconfig
and browse to usb section
If you feel adventurous enough you can recpompile your kernel to suite your setup better, there are different how-tos available I prefer to refer newcomers to http://linuxjunior.org/cgi-bin/pet/p...T=Display&id=9
the guy who runs linuxjunior is a member here as well - pbharris - he is a great help around here and in his own boat ( http://www.linuxjunior.org )

Initializing ........ [ OK ]
Initializing ... etc.. [ OK ]
Initializing USB devices [ OK ]
Initizlizing Keyboard [ OK ]
Initializing Mouse [ OK ]
Initializing ... etc.. [ OK ]
Initializing ... [ OK ]
Then
Red Hat Linux 8.0 (2.4.18-14)
localhost...
login: <=-- after this I cant do anything, I can type a letter i.e. root or another username but its not right, you know what I mean its so sensitive turns to (rrooooooooooootttttt)
Can you tell me how can i do what your saying if i cant even log-in? Hope you can help! Thank you

This is catch22 - you can't compile a compiler w/o a compiler is a good analogy here I guess. Do you have any other noon-USB keyboard liying around (PS/2, serial)?
