Since I've had enough Linux problems today and am too lazy to figure out what's wrong on my own..
Today I installed gentoo. Everything went well apart from some dumb errors caused by me.
I got it to boot, emerged links and vim, and part of the kde dependencies... don't feel like letting it all compile tonight. Plus alsa-utils, added alsa to the runlevel..
So I rebooted to see if alsa was working.. and it boots ok, except at the end, tells me it can't start sysklogd. This is a gentoo stage 3 tarball bug, sysklogd was included by mistake. I don't think I correctly unmerged it. But I'm using metalog, and that is sucessfully started.
Anyway. On to the problem.
My keyboard doesn't work. It just doesn't type anything, numlock keys etc do not change the light. It's like the freezes I had on my old flakey hardware. I'm wondering if it froze, or if it's just a keyboard problem? I can't tell..
I know, I should try some stuff (such as chrooting and uninstalling alsa...) before asking, but I was wondering if anyone could give me insight into what might cause this..
Thanks in advance.
