Keyboard does not respond in 2.6

Hi, as soon as I load a 2.6 kernel, my keyboard stops responding.
The keyboard is a standard PS/2 keyboard.
I can type fine in the bootloader, but as soon as I hit 'Enter' and linux loads, I can't type.
Num/scroll/caps lock no longer toggle the keyboard LEDs.

This problem happens on both the gentoo and ubuntu bootcds. I do not know exactly what kernel versions or what they were compiled with, but i'm assuming a bootcd would have keyboard support..

I currently do not have linux installed, and I realy know nothing about linux, so trying to compile my own kernel probably isn't an option.

I built the computer myself, its got an Asus P4P800 with an Intel P4 2.4C.

Any help would be appreciated.
