Keyboard and Mouse are not getting detected after installing RedHat9
 

Dear all,

I have installed RedHat9 yesterday and during the installation process both the Keyboard and the Mouse were detected and they worked fine. After the installation is done it has prompted me to reboot the system and I have done so. Redhat usually takes the first time user to the "firstboot" interface where it will ask the user to set some parameters like user accounts etc. Exactly there my Keyboard and Mouse are not getting detected and this is stopping me from moving forward.

It looks like I am so close yet so far from my desktop. I would be greatful if you could help me in this.

This is quite a wierd problem.
1) After the reboot were there any specific faliures of services (if u see the list of Starting....xyz.... [OK]...)
was there [FAILED] in any of the services?

2) Did u shake your desk that might have accidently resulted in a loose contact with the mouse and keyboard ports

3) Is your system getting heated too much...

If you dont find any of these reasons to be true, you might like to find out with your friend whether he has a keyboard/mouse to spare....

Try that out...dont worry..just only keep Standard keyboards in place..Dont jump into your friend's multimedia...

Are you trying to install Redhat 9.0 in a relatively new machine, with mouse and keyboard like USB ones? Redhat 9.0 is the Windows 95 of Linux distribution: It's old and not supported anymore. I'd go with something newer, like Fedora (with is the "new" Redhat) or something else.

Is it that Old...that means Redhat 8 is like Windows 3.1??

Nah, I'm exagerating a little, I admit :). But I will always recommend peoples having problems with Redhat and that are new to Linux to upgrade. Installing Linux for the first time is no easy task, fixing a broken distribution as first thing on your todo list is not clever either, gheh. And if the distro is old and unsupported as Redhat, then most likely that fellow will quit trying Linux.

My favorite Redhat is Redhat 7.3 still. My first Redhat experience was 6.2. It was nice, but the fonts were really horrible. It was back them I realized that I needed glasses :)

Thanks a lot for the reply redhatrosh and MegaManX. Indeed it was a wierd problem. I have solved it by re-installing RedHat9 again. This time everthing went on smoothly without a hitch. I have been using linux from the past 6 months and I have fallen for that. I tried installing Redhat after failing to install Debian on one of my old machines. The installation of Debian failed at the X. I mean it would not start the X-windows thing because I did not know the hardware thats lying in my old system and Debian would not move forward without that information (I guess it did not have the capabilities to detect the hardware directly during the installtion like RedHat. I am not sure about this though).

As MegaManX has suggested I would update my RedHat9 to the latest version.
