First you're going to have to compile your kernel with pcmcia OUT of it, best to check the linux documentation projest's famed kernel how-to. Then once that boots (and your pcmcia device should do nothing at all), grab the pcmcia-cs package from sourceforge and compile that against the new kernel.
I'd recommend grabbing the newer 2.4.20 kernel off of kernel.org so that you'll have an unmolested 2.4.19 kernel source tree too. That way you can keep experimental on one side, and more or less stable on the other.
