Question Kernel Modules for Lirc

Hi,

i'am using RedHat 8.0 and have some troubles loading the 'lirc_serial.o' module.

lsmod shows:

Module Size Used by Tainted: P
ircomm 10952 0 (unused)
irport 7952 0 (unused)
irtty 8032 0 (unused)
irda 121968 0 [ircomm irport irtty]
generic_serial 13692 0 (unused)

When i make a: insmod lirc_serial. The output is:
/lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/misc/lirc_serial.o:
unresolved symbol __wake_up
unresolved symbol chrdev
unresolved symbol remove_wait_queue
unresolved symbol pollwait
unresolved symbol add_wait_queue
unresolved symbol sleep_on_timeout

a ls -l /dev/lirc*, tells me:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Jan 6 15:11 /dev/lirc -> ttyS0
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Jan 14 10:40 /dev/lircd
prw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 6 20:20 /dev/lircm

when i take a look on my kernel-configuration, i see that
IrDA subsystem support, IrDA protocols support and
the infrared-port device drivers are installed with module-config.
Dongle support is statically installed in the kernel

I think i don't have all required kernel modules loaded, of course because i don't know which one i have to install.
Does anyone know which kernel-module is required for lirc_serial?

Try modprobe instead of insmod. This resolves the dependencys automatically (if you're modules.conf is correct, did you follow the instructions for modules.conf?)

Lirc Kernel modules

Hi,

the result with modprobe is the same. I set the following lines in the modules.conf:
alias char-major-61 lirc_serial
options lirc_serial irq=4 io=0x3e8
The ttyS0 - COM1 Port is also like the 'options lirc_serial irq=4 io=0x3e8' line should be. (Told me setserial /dev/ttyS0 -a)

Similar problem with unresolved lirc modules

I have a similar issue with lirc. I am trying to load lirc_gpio used for my TV card (Winfast 2000).
I have Redhat 8.0.

I have found and tried other solutions like
1. I created a symbolic link called "usr/src/linux" linked to the linux source directory.
2. I recompiled the drivers using command line option to point to my linux src directory.
Still have the same problem of unresolved modules when I run modprobe or insmod.

I have installed the IR support modules for my kernel
I read in the lirc documentation it recommends a vanilla kernel, I guess this is the next step.

Has anyone else found a solution to this problem?

Lirc

Hi,

i think i found a solution, maybe you can try to compile a new kernel with the standard-redhat-kernel-config (feel free to modify it)

i read some thinks like: my installed kernel-rpms didn't match the installed kernel-source-rpms. .. so i recompiled the kernel, an it worked.
