kernel: journal commit I/O error

Hello:

I am trying to copy data from an external USB drive to a newly installed Debian computer. The drive is a Seagate FreeAgentGo 250G. There is one ext3 partition and an unused space. I was able to write and read to/from the drive on a Kubuntu machine without any problem. But every time I tried to copy files from the USB drive to the Debian machine I got this msg

Code:
kernel:[ 8824.996238] journal commit I/O error
I mounted the drive with user and owner at the mount point and all the subfolders, I mean root does not own them.

Can someone please help me.
