Kernel: hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } - CDROM Problem?


I'm having a IBM x3550 machine that intermittent freeze (but ping still responding..just can't log in to the machine)....the error in the log as below...hda is actually a cdrom drive on the machine because we are using scsi HDD in this case...i'm temporary disconnect it from motherboard....still udner monitoring..

anyway, any one know what is this error issue and any advice appreciated.

That's the middle of the typical crap that you get when a drive goes funny on a bus. I have experience with it - recent experience. What was happening before? Often, simply turning off for a while or getting more fans in helps. Sometimes it's simply a drive not reading well.

A good test for that I find is to put in an audio cd and play it. If it plays all the way through, the cd drive is probably ok. If the heads are off adjustment, it will never get to the end, but lose itself and restart.
