Question Kernel and HDD issue

I compiled my own kernel and now on my /var/log/syslog file I'm getting this:

May 29 10:34:38 mega kernel: VP_IDE: detected chipset, but driver not compiled in!

I got through the IDE section of the kernel's menuconfig tool but I read nothing that could give me a clue about compiling anything.

What is it related to???

What am I suppose to compile on??

By the way this is my configuration:
Athlon XP 1700+
VIA K7 Pro2 266
HHD1 Seagate Barracuda II 7200RPM 30Gb ATA 133
HHD2 Quantum Fireball 15Gb ATA 66

and this is the complete "VP_IDE" messages serie:

May 29 10:34:38 mega kernel: VP_IDE: IDE controller on PCI bus 00 dev 89
May 29 10:34:38 mega kernel: VP_IDE: detected chipset, but driver not compiled in!
May 29 10:34:38 mega kernel: VP_IDE: chipset revision 6
May 29 10:34:38 mega kernel: VP_IDE: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later

thnx in advance.

Have you got all the via chipset drivers compiled into the kernel, they're listed under "IDE, ATA and ATAPI Block devices" when you do a make menuconfig.

cheers

I found just one VIA option under the IDE section, that is already selected.

VIA82CXXX, under IDE PCI Generic chipset.

And these are the names on /proc/pci files:

Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8367 [KT266] (rev 0).
PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8367 [KT333 AGP] (rev 0).
ISA bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233 PCI to ISA Bridge (rev 0).
IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C586B PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 6). USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (#3) (rev 27).
USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (#2) (rev 27).
USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 27).

IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C586B PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 6). It apperantely has compatibily with the kernel driver named above.

Got it.

I erased the kernel tree and unpacked it again, and then appeared an IEDE PNP option, I selected it, and that was it.

thnx for everything.
